The Paper Painting Process
Both my Painted Paper Collages and Painting & Tearing parties rely on hand painted paper to add color and texture. This is such an inherent part of the finished product that I want to share the process that goes into creating this colorfulness.

I start with ephemera, the random pieces of paper that people use on a daily basis that often get thrown away. This might include old books, sheet music, letters, school work, shopping lists, and anything else that will work with the paint to add texture.

We usually think of painting being done by brush, and I've painted many of my papers that way. However, the process I want to show you is the one I utilize most often lately, using a Gelli Plate. This is an amazing tool that looks and feels like a sheet of gelatin and makes the process of getting paint on paper incredibly fun and so easy. Though it's still time-consuming, it's much faster than using a brush.
